Your Initial Evaluation
Before Your Visit:
You should stop taking antihistamines for 3 days prior to your visit since they can interfere with allergy testing. Discontinue the nasal antihistamine Astelin for 3 days prior to testing. Asthma medications, such as inhaled or oral corticosteroids, cromolyn sodium, and bronchodilators such as albuterol should not be stopped.
If you have any questions regarding medications that might interfere with your testing, please call the office where you are scheduled to be seen.
Please bring information about previous diagnosis, treatments, surgeries and testing. Also bring a list of all your current medications and a copy of recent lab work or x-rays.
The Day Of Your Visit:
Your first visit often takes 2 – 3 hours, depending on how complicated your medical history is and what testing might be needed.
You will be seen by one of our nurses and one of our board certified allergy physicians. The physician will review all your current symptoms, past medical history, environmental exposures, and will conduct a physical examination.
The physician will order various tests which may include allergy skin testing, breathing tests, blood tests, and x-rays. In addition, he or she may recommend other testing and consultation with additional specialists if necessary.
